SIX people from Suffolk and north Essex along with Olympic champions Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Andy Murray, are among the 1,000 new names in the 2013 edition of Who’s Who, which is published today.

Inclusion in the world-famous reference book, which contains potted biographies of 33,000 of some of the most famous and most talented people in the world, is by invitation only, so this is an accolade for all the newcomers.

The newcomers include:

• The Archdeacon of Suffolk, the Venerable Ian Morgan, 55, who lives at Ashfield cum Thorpe, near Stowmarket, and who, between 1992 and 1995, was vicar of All Hallows, Ipswich, and is a former president of Ipswich Rotary Club

• David Wolfe, 48, South African-born barrister and colleague – at Matrix Chambers, London – of Cherie Booth QC, wife of former prime minister Tony Blair. Mr Wolfe became a QC (Queen’s Counsel) earlier this year. He lives near Woodbridge and is a governor of Alde Valley school (formerly Leiston High School).

• Lord Somerleyton, 41, who succeeded to the family title and inherited Somerleyton Hall, Lovingland, on the death of his father earlier this year.

• Sarah Nancollas, 51, chief executive of LEPRA Health In Action, which is based in Colchester.

• Professor Paul Whiteley, 66, a Professor of Government at the University of Essex.

• Paul Zollinger-Read, 50, group medical director of BUPA, from Castle Hedingham.

Everyone in Who’s Who is invited to compile his or her own entry, so entries can be as long or as short as celebrities wish. The late romantic novelist Dame Barbara Cartland required 222 lines to list her mostly literary achievements.

The entries of the sextet from Suffolk and north Essex are comparatively brief and modest.

The Archeacon of Suffolk explains his life story in 14 lines which, coincidentally, is the same number of lines required by US President Barack Obama and only five fewer than than the entry of Pope Benedict XVI.

In Who’s Who, the Archdeacon lists his recreations as “supporter of Welsh rugby, England cricket and Brighton and Hove Albion, cooking, Rotary (he was president of the Ipswich Club for a year from 2007), falling asleep whilst reading at the beach hut”.

Sarah Nancollas lists her recreations as “landscape photography, watching athletics, Formula 1 and cricket”.

The new names from Suffolk and Essex and all the others will now remain in Who’s Who until they die, when they will be automatically transferred to its sister publication, Who Was Who.

The 2013 edition of Who’s Who is published by A & C Black at £235.
