A Suffolk man has received national recognition for his continuous charity work.

Harvey Mcsloy, from Stowmarket, won a British Citizen Award for his work with the charity he set up, Trust Maria.

The charity aims to raise funds to provide specialist equipment and facilities for local hospices.

It was set up by Mr Mcsloy, after his mother, Maria died from cancer in July 2013. Since then, the charity has raised more than £37,000.

Mr Mcsloy said: “It felt brilliant.

“There are thousands nominated so to be picked was a privilege. Even to get through was a shock. I couldn’t believe it.”

At the presentation, he got to meet Baroness Cox and RAF Regiment Afghanistan veteran and double amputee Duncan Slater.

“They were all saying what I was doing was brilliant. It was nice to meet inspiring people like that,” he said.
