A west Suffolk strongman just missed out on a medal at the World’s Strongest Disabled Man championships in Norway at the weekend.
Chris Rix’s bid for glory in the seated cerebral palsy category was thwarted when equipment for one of the disciplines failed to arrive at the venue. The log press at the event in Bodo, situated on a peninsula in northern Norway, had to be changed to a dumbbell lift, seated on a bench, and the 33-year-old was unable to record a lift.
Mr Rix, from Alpheton, near Sudbury, performed well in other disciplines, including the 20-metre car pull, but finished fourth – missing out on bronze by a narrow margin.
He said: “I was disappointed, but what is, is. Those were the rules, so it was the same for everyone.
“Now it’s back to the gym, and aiming for the next level. I need to better myself.”
Lithuanian powerlifter and professional strongman Zydrunas Savickas, the only modern competitor to have won every current major strongman competition, was among the judges at the event, and also put on a demonstration.
