WORSHIPPERS across Suffolk are being encouraged to join together and celebrate the Queen’s 60 years’ service to the nation.
The Big Thank You project was launched yesterday by the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocese, the Rt Rev Nigel Stock. A special service was held at St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds to mark the occasion.
The project is a chance for people to add their signature and good wishes to “thank you” letters being displayed in cathedrals and churches around the UK. The letters from each diocese will be delivered to Buckingham Palace later in the year.
Bishop Nigel said: “This initiative is an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for Her Majesty’s devoted service to our nation during the past 60 years.
“I know that many people want to support the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and this letter gives an opportunity to do so personally. Her Majesty’s Christian faith is very clear, and it is highly appropriate that the Church should initiate one way of expressing people’s gratitude.”
Letters will be available at churches and the cathedral, while throughout February St Edmundsbury will also display a copy of its visitors’ book, which the Queen signed in April 2009 ahead of the Service of the Royal Maundy.
Bishop Nigel is also encouraging churches to mark the Diamond Jubilee by taking part in the Big Lunch in June. The aim is for people across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in an act of community, friendship and fun. Bishop Nigel said churches could play a major role in making the event a huge success by hosting or taking part in a Big Lunch within their parish.

The CoE helps keep the Royal Family in business and the Royal family help to keep the CoE in business. Substitute 'the rich, the wealthy, the privileged' for 'the CoE' and it's the same story. They will all praise each other.

I swore my alliegance to Her Majesty The Queen upon joining the RAF in 1952 and upon being appointed a magistrate in 1970. It has been My privilege so to do given the noble and devoted service that she has given this country and the Commonwealth supported with equal loyally by Prince Philip. We are sngularly fortunate in our unwritten constitution and our beloved Queen as its head. May we all demonstrate equal gratitude to Her Majesty by making this an unforgetable year of celebration and thanksgiving that we have lived during this glorious reign. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY YOUR MAJESTY
