SUFFOLK County Council has voted unanimously to close four middle schools in the Stowmarket and Stowupland area.

Councillors met at Endeavour House this morning to discuss the ongoing proposals which will see schools in Suffolk move from a three-tier to two-tier system.

Several parents attended the cabinet meeting where they questioned the benefit of the proposals.

Stowmarket Middle, Needham Middle, Combs Middle and Bacton Middle Schools will now all close in September 2015.

The schools will have their final intake of students this autumn.

Last night an angry meeting organised by the group, Suffolk Action for Truth on SOR (SATS), grilled bosses from the county council.

Parents said they would fight the decision until the schools’ doors closed for the last time.

The council has argued closing the schools will lead to improved results and is an integral part in raising attainment levels across Suffolk.
