The first was in Felsham at 6.05pm at a farmhouse in Lower Green.

The flames had affected a wood burning stove, which was removed by firefighters from Elmswell and Bury St Edmunds.

Special chimney gear and a turntable ladder were used during the operation. The flames were out by 7.35pm.

The other fire started at 6.10pm in the chimney at the Ten Bells public house in Stonham Aspal.

The flames were out by the time the Debenham crew arrived and the pub did not have to close.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Please ensure you have your chimney swept and the brickwork inspected at least once a year, or if the chimney has not been used recently. It only takes a small blockage to start a chimney fire.”
