Suffolk FA has launched an investigation into the abandonment of a football match in Ipswich after an alleged “bundle” broke out.

The governing body for football in the county has opened an inquiry into an Ipswich Sunday Football League Reserves Minor Cup semi-final match between Suffolk Punch FC and Taverners Reserves, which was abandoned on Sunday.

The match was called off after 35 minutes, according to an initial match report posted on the Taverners website.

It said that a “bundle” had taken place during the match, but this reference was later removed from the report.

Three players were sent off after receiving red cards, while two yellow cards were also handed out, according to a match report posted on the Ipswich Sunday Morning Football League website.

It did not provide any reasons for the abandonment of the game or state when the match was stopped by the referee.

However, the report stated that no goals had been scored by either side when the decision had been taken to abandon the game.

Spokesmen for both Suffolk Punch FC and Taverners Reserves said it would not be appropriate to provide a comment while the investigation remained ongoing.

A spokesman for the Suffolk FA confirmed the governing body was investigating the incident.

In a statement, he said: “We have received the referee’s report from the match.

“We will be investigating (the incident).”

The incident was not reported to police, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said.

The fixture took place at Whitton Sports Centre in Ipswich at 10.30am on Sunday.

In the other semi-final of the Ipswich Sunday Football League Reserves Minor Cup, Briarbank Rovers knocked out Felixstowe Harpers United reserves following an 8-2 victory.
