A force spokeswoman said: “By releasing information concerning our law enforcement capabilities would create a better awareness amongst the community we serve, this could potentially lead to reduced crime, and in this case reduced hoax calls being made.

“This in turn will save police time and will enable us to focus on protecting the community and preventing and detecting crime.”

She added: “Where public funds are being spent, there is always a public interest in accountability and hoax calls cost the emergency services, both financially and in time.”

These calls were made between January 2011 and September 2012 and were logged by a police operator:

- Call from premises to fire

- Saying they are locked in the flat and someone needed to go to hospital

- Fire have arrived and there is a woman hanging out of the window.

- There are no issues at all here.

- No one is ill in the premises or trapped. She needlessly called fire and ambulance out because we wouldn’t help earlier.

- For her troubles fire have cut a big hole in her door.

- She just wanted the door unlocked.

- Drunk American states he is along (address deleted) but does not know how to get home.

- Wanted to give him a ******* phone number for a taxi company, advised swearing at me is not the way to get my help.

- To which he told me he did not give a ****.

- I hung up.

- Inft (Informant) states that her cat is sitting outside yowling.

- As if someone might be out there

- She then went on to try and tell me about some tribunal she had attended today.

- I advsd (advised) that 999 is for reporting emergencies only.

- She stated that she couldn’t ring out on her phone except using 999.

- Further call from (name or address deleted) asking for police to attend.

- The cats were wailing.

- Connected to young sounding female.

- Had an ‘Indian’ accent.

- Saying ‘Hello, hello there has been a robbery in my shop’.

- There was a second voice in the background that appeared to be giggling.

- I asked how long ago this occurred and where the shop was.

- Inft said 10 minutes ago.

- Then she started giggling and dropped the call.

- Call on 999 line

- Stating that she filled up with petrol earlier and didn’t have enough money to pay.

- Advised this is not appropriate on emergency call.
