More than 700 individuals and 130 workplaces in Suffolk have taken part in a challenge to get people more active.
The Workplace Challenge, organised by the County Sports Partnership Network and funded by Sport England, let teams tot up points online based on how much physical activity they got through between January and March.
And it was staff at Archant Suffolk who topped this year’s league table.
In total, more than 52,000 miles were travelled by participants, 18,544 hours of activities logged, and more than 5,000kg of CO2 saved.
There were 133 workplaces which signed up to the challenge, and 730 people.
Thanks to the combined efforts of those in editorial, advertising and newspaper sales, Archant Suffolk topped the county league table.
Canvassing executive Matt Casburn was Archant’s highest scorer, also finishing eighth in the county’s individual league table.
The team logged more than 2,200 miles in exercise – ranging from running and cycling to walking.
John Clough, director of Suffolk Sport, said: “Suffolk Sport is delighted to have taken the opportunity to implement such a great initiative throughout Suffolk’s workplaces.
“On behalf of Suffolk Sport I would like to congratulate all participants for taking part, improving their health and well-being, helping Suffolk strive to become the Most Active County.”
County councillor Alan Murray said “The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) state that efforts made in the workplace, alongside wider strategies to increase physical activity levels, could help improve people’s health significantly. It is pleasing to see that the Suffolk Workplace Challenge has been successful in involving a significant number of workplaces and individuals in the county including a number of people that were previously inactive. It is initiatives such as these that will help Suffolk to become the most active county in England.”
Archant’s winning team was: Matt Casburn, Brad Jones, Matthew Hunt, Mark Heath, Nathan Collins, Donna Harvey-Arnell, Emma Bailey, Fiona Wilkinson, Isobel Robson, Will Rodwell, Craig Robinson, Martin Bell, Michelle Patrick, Arabella Brown, Andrea Jones, Matt Hunter and Ginette May.
