Holidays closer to home
Unusual Family Days Out
It’s not too long until half term and parents across East Anglia will be thinking of ways to keep the little ones entertained over the school holiday. A day at the beach is always a family favourite but the unpredictable British weather can mean that a trip to the seaside is more soggy than sandy. Wherever you’re spending half term, here are a few unusual choices guaranteed to keep the kids and you entertained whatever the weather.
Best for inquisitive minds...
Museums don’t have to be boring and that’s certainly the case at Techniquest in Cardiff Bay. Whether you can actually call this homage to science a museum is one thing but it’s sure to leave the whole family intrigued and entertained in equal measure. Time will fly by at the interactive museum which has more than 130 exhibits which you can try out from launching a small hot air balloon to spinning in a gyro chair to observing a colony of ants. Why not visit www.sykescottages.co.uk to find a holiday cottage in Wales so you can make the most of the half term holiday?
Best for active families...
For families who enjoy getting their adrenaline pumping, coasteering is a great day out. You’ll be kitted out in a wetsuit and helmet and spend some time climbing up cliffs and jumping into the sea below. Then swim to the next part of the course and start all over again! You’re heart rate will soon be soaring but follow the advice of the highly trained instructors and it’s a safe way to spend a couple of hours. As you’ll be in and out of the water, it won’t matter if it’s raining either. There are numerous operators offering coasteering throughout Cornwall with most welcoming children as young as ten with being able to swim a must!
Best for fun closer to home...
If you’re planning to spend half term week at home, you’ll be in need of some suggestions for great days out. Look out for special events at your favourite local places such as Norwich Castle to keep you all entertained. The Norwich Puppet Theatre and Arts Centre have a range of activities for half term fun. For something a bit more unusual closer to home, why not visit the Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens in Great Yarmouth? If you’re feeling brave take the Tiger Tree Walk, a specially constructed walk in the trees above the tigers’ enclosure to give you a truly unique but completely safe perspective.
