Temperatures have dropped below 0C for the first time this season, but what does the rest of the week hold for Suffolk and north Essex?
Many of us may have struggled to shake off the duvet this morning, as temperatures in parts of the region officially dipped to -1C for the first time this autumn.
Chris Bell, forecaster for Weatherquest, said the chilly weather was a sign that summer had truly passed – but that’s not to say sunny spells are off the cards.
He said: “This was the first morning of the season that we have seen temperatures drop below freezing.”
The coldest temperature was recorded in Santon Downham in north-west Suffolk, where the mercury dipped to -1.1C.
Despite the morning chill, today should be fairly mild for the most part – with temperatures hitting 17 or 18C and high cloud making way for plenty of sun.
“Today certainly will be sunny,” Mr Bell said. “We are in a period now with high pressure over us. It will keep us dry over the coming week.”
He added that tomorrow will be slightly warmer – still with a chilly start, but highs of 20C as the day goes on.
