A total of 29 fire crews dealt with a thatched house fire in Chediston, near Halesworth, last night and through the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called at around 10.30pm to the blaze in Halesworth Road.
The fire is believed to have started in an outbuilding and spread to a thatched house which is used as office space.
Police had to close the road as the outbuilding has collapsed into the road.
According to a spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, 27 fire engines from Suffolk and two from Norfolk attended the scene to fight the fire and an investigation into the blaze is due to commence today.
She added it is believed that no one was in the building at the time.
“The fire appears to have started in an outbuilding and has spread to a thatched building,” she said.
“They have had to close the road nearby because it is not safe for people to drive past.
In total 29 vehicles attended the incident.
Two each were mobilised from Leiston, Ixworth and Beccles, and one each from North Lowestoft, Holbrook, Brandon, Saxmundham, Wrentham, Southwold, Nayland, Newmarket, Ipswich East, Orford, Woodbridge, Hadleigh, Long Melford, Wickhambrook, Elmswell, Framlingham, Aldeburgh, Stradbroke, Lowestoft South, Halesworth and Bungay, and the Norfolk service dispatched one each from Diss and Harleston.
The used six breathing apparatus, two jets, three hosereels, three x 9 metre ladders and three x 13.5m metre ladders.
A police spokesman added: “Officers have closed a section of the B1123, Halesworth Road, in Chediston near Halesworth, but it is now open again.
“It has been closed because an outbuilding is collapsing into the highway.
“It is a large house fire.”
The Salvation Army also attended for crew welfare and provided refreshments inclucing hot drinks for personnel.
The fire was declared under control at 05.43am this morning with five fire crews left at the scene to damp down.
They were from Nayland, Ixworth, Newmarket, Orford and Lowestoft North.
