Raiders have broken into a fitness and event facility along with its associated hair and beauty salon, assault course and archery club stealing over £22,600 worth of items including a truck, generators, laptop and cash and causing up to £800 worth of damage.

Three men struck in the early hours of the morning at the Suffolk Academy, Scisssor Box, Barrow Archery Club and The Playground, in Church Road, Barrow.

Now site owner Glen Moulds along with Sarah Moore, who runs the salon and brothers Nick and Phil Smith, who operate the assault course, say they are stepping up security at the site to prevent any similar raids.

And the brothers have also set up a Go Fund Me website to help recuperate the losses by offering free sessions with a donation to their campaign.

They had a generator, i-pad, TV and speaker system totalling £1,621 taken in the raid on Thursday, September 27, and have been left devastated by the theft.

“We built The Playground from scratch with our own hands under the guidance of our dad and our idea was borne out of a joint passion to get more people outdoors, get more people active and to get more people having fun,” said Nick, today.

“In just over two years we have continually re-invested any profits made in order to continually improve our customer experience. In addition to this we have also raised just over £25,000 for a number of charities.

“So it’s so heartbreaking and devastating to be broken into and robbed of items that we have worked hard for (literally blood, sweat and tears).

“To try and recoup these losses we are offering a free pay and play session, which is usually £20 for adults, in return for a small donation.”

Meanwhile, Mr Moulds said: “We have got to take more crime prevention measures now to stop people coming on the site and we will be investing more in security.

“The thieves smashed their way into the Academy and caused a great deal of damage ripping out the safe which had £3,000 in it and they even stolen my Toyota Hilux Invincible which was branded along with the keys to my Mercedes.”

Other items taken included a laptop, a PC, cash, sat nav, alcohol, video recorder, dictaphone and generator.

Mr Moulds added: “This is a great family friendly site which has been targetted by these thieves.”
