The Suffolk lorry driver who died at a Toyota factory in Derbyshire yesterday worked for a haulage company in Felixstowe.

A statement released by Toyota said the 56-year-old worked for Goldstar Transport, which is based near the port.

He was killed after becoming trapped between two lorries at the plant in Burnaston at around 12.40am on Wednesday.

Toyota’s statement said: “Further to the tragic, fatal accident that occurred at Toyota’s vehicle manufacturing plant in Burnaston in the early hours of yesterday morning, we can confirm that the lorry driver who died worked for Goldstar Transport, a logistics company based in Felixstowe.

“The driver was visiting the site in order to deliver a container of parts and to collect an empty container to return to Felixstowe.

“It was whilst making this delivery/collection that the accident occurred.”

The man is believed to be from Thurston. His family have been informed, but police have said he is unlikely to be formally identified until next week.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Derbyshire Police have launched an investigation, although the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman from Goldstar said the company would not be commenting at this time.
