An Ipswich man plans to trek across the Sahara Desert with army veterans for the Help for Heroes charity next year.

Trainee army officer, Alexander Flory, 24, was inspired by the story of Lance Corporal Jonathon ‘Frenchie’ Le Galloudec who was shot in the spine whilst on patrol in Basra back in 2007.

Despite the doctors telling him he would never walk again, Frenchie took his first wobbly steps just two months after he was injured, his story has pushed Alex to embark on the gruelling trek between Febraury and March next year.

Alex said: “I didn’t truly understand what the Help for Heroes charity did for wounded troops before I read Frenchie’s story, it inspired me to go on this trip.”

Alex has a Just Giving page with the aim of raising £1600 for Help For Heroes: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/alexander-flory1
