There are still heavy rail delays this evening because of problems at Chelmsford.

There are delays of around 180 minutes which are expected to last until 2am tomorrow.

Other trains, including those running to London and to Colchester and Ipswich, are being cancelled completely.

Damaged to the overhead line equipment (OLE) which powers the electric trains caused one train to break down earlier.

This has had a knock-on effect and although the broken down train has now been moved the OLE is still damaged.

A full list of cancellations and delays is available on the Greater Anglia website.

Tickets are being accepted on London Underground and First Capital Connect services.

Anyone with a ticket for an Intercity service travelling between Norwich and London can also use it up to 60 minutes before or after their booked train.

And tickets dated for today (June 17) will also be valid on June 18.

Engineers from Network Rail will be working to repair the OLE overnight.

Ipswich Hospital bosses should be proud of the services they provide, a health watchdog’s chief inspector said as he gave the trust glowing feedback in a new report.

Oliver Sheppard, 28, of Park Road in Clacton, was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on January 16 after pleading guilty there on January 8.

One man was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Concerns had been raised about safety in the area

Nearly nine nurses a day are leaving the NHS across the East of England, new figures reveal.

Developers have submitted proposals for nearly 300 new homes in Debenham – on a site rejected by villagers who fear a large estate could change the community’s character.

The winner of the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star’s Christmas Claws competition has been announced. .
