The service has been cancelled due to a broken down freight train between Ipswich and Manningtree, blocking trains on lines from Ipswich.

The service was due to stop at Manningtree, Colchester, Marks Tey, Witham, Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street.

The 9.52am service to London Liverpool Street has also been cancelled, as well as the 10.29am Norwich to London Liverpool Street service.

A spokesman for Abellio Greater Anglia said services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 20 minutes at short notice.

They also added that once the problem has been assesed, an estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided.

The 9.58am Ipswich to Felixstowe service, the 10.28am Felixstowe to Ipswich service, the 10.17am Ipswich to Lowestoft service and the 12.07pm Lowestoft to Ipswich service have all been cancelled as well.

  • Here we have the result of tory privatisation and fragmentation of our Railways !, we never had all these problems when British Rail were running them as a National Asset !

  • amsterdam81... the broken down train was somewhere South of Ipswich on the mainline ... the chord is North West. *** Considering its a different rail line... why was the non-London services cancelled?!

  • Now there is an alternative via the chord then freight must be forced to use it to prevent this sort of disruption to passenger traffic. I hope the freight company receive a very large penalty but it will not compensate the passengers who have had to suffer today.
