The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named Suffolk man Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton and six other friends as the godparents of their son George.
The three-month-old Prince, who will one day be king, will be baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, in the little known Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace this afternoon.
His seven godparents include William and Kate’s former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, from Suffolk, who continues to serve part-time as their principal private secretary and equerry.
In a statement, Kensington Palace said the other godparents are Zara Tindall, Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Julia Samuel and William van Cutsem.
Mr Lowther-Pinkerton is a former SAS man, who spent 20 years in the army and was also equerry to William’s great grandmother, the Queen Mother, in the 1980s.
Quiet, calm and discreet, the married father-of-three was held in such high regard by William and Kate that they asked his 10-year-old son Billy to be one of their pageboys at their wedding.
