An air ambulance was called to treat a man in his 60s who collapsed beside the route of the Tour de France in Essex this morning.

The East of England Ambulance Service received reports that the casualty had taken ill in Church Hill, Finchingfield, at around 10.30am.

First responders, the Essex Air Ambulance and Essex Police were also despatched to the incident.

A spokesman for the air ambulance said casualty was in a “serious condition” in Basildon Hospital
