A one-year-old boy suffered a fractured skull and was placed in an induced coma after falling from a first floor window in Thetford.

The toddler was rushed to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds following the fall on to concrete at an address in Ripon Way, Thetford at around 10am on Sunday.

A police investigation into the incident was launched immediately. Officers found there was no criminal intent or culpability, according to a police spokesman.

Dr Andy Mason, from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS), attended the scene and said the boy had undergone a CT scan to determine the extent of his injuries.

“His injuries were serious but non-life-threatening so he was taken to West Suffolk for a CT scan.

“I followed in my response vehicle and rendezvoused with the ambulance at Rymer Point after the child’s condition deteriorated.

“However, his condition appears to have stabilized,” he said.

Dr Mason added that the boy did not appear to have suffered any further injuries as a result of the fall.

The police spokesman confirmed that the 23-month-old boy had suffered a fractured skull but that his injuries were “not life-threatening”.

Neighbours said they were shocked by the incident, which took place at a house owned by Flagship Housing.

Carl Clark, Thetford Town Councillor and resident in Ripon Way, said: “The family were devastated. They are very well known in the street and I have known them for four or five years.

“They are a really nice family who are great with their kids so this was a shock to everyone.

“It sounds like it was just an awful accident,” he said.
