Three arrested over stabbing in Christchurch Park, Ipswich

Three men have been arrested after a triple stabbing in Christchurch Park last night.

Emergency services were called to the town centre park just after 6.50pm to reports of a man who had suffered stab wounds to his leg following a fight.

Suffolk police officers and the East of England Ambulance Service were scrambled to the scene and found a man with several leg wounds in the park near to the junction of Park Road and Henley Road.

A Suffolk police spokeswoman said: “A few minutes later they found a man with a stab wound and cuts to his face and a wound to his body, and a third man with a small puncture wound to his shoulder.”

Armed police officers and the police helicopter were deployed in a huge operation to trace the suspects.

It is feared there were more than three people stabbed and inquiries are continuing into whether there are any further victims.

The spokesman confirmed two of the victims were taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment but that neither of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening.

The third man’s shoulder wound was checked over by ambulance staff at the scene.

One man, 22, and two 17-year-old boys, all from Ipswich, were arrested on suspicion of GBH a short time later and remain in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where they will be interviewed by detectives.

Areas of Christchurch Park were closed last ngith and will remain so today as police begin an investigation at the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or finds a discarded weapon that may be linked to the incident, is urged to come forward and contact Suffolk police on 101 quoting CAD 394 of March 20.
