Archant

Firefighters were at the scene of a blaze at a property in Harwich which was “well alight”.

Crews were called at 7.30pm to Oakland Road, Harwich, with appliances from Dovercourt, Manningtree and Weeley attending.

The first floor of the end of terrace property was said to be “well alight” and the ground floor to be 50% alight.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels and a jet to tackle the fire.

At 8.10pm fire crews said a neighbouring property had become smoke logged because of the blaze.

By 9pm the ground floor fire was out and the first floor was said to be under control.

Forty minutes later the whole fire has been extinguished. The fire has caused the loft to also become heavily smoke logged.

A fire spokesman said two people were made homeless because of the blaze.

An investigation into the fire’s cause is now underway.
