A man remains in a critical condition in hospital following a serious accident on the A12 near to Yoxford yesterday.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at approximately 1.15pm yesterday afternoon.

A grey Peugeot car and a red and white Scania lorry collided on the A12 northbound carriageway, just before the village of Yoxford.

The 45-year-old man in the car sustained serious life threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital where he remains. His condition is now described as being critical but stable.

Diversions were put in place and the road was closed whilst recovery of the car took place and a collision investigation was carried out.

The road re-opened around 5.30pm.

The lorry remains at the side of the A12 and arrangements are being made to recover the vehicle in the early hours of Saturday during a quiet period to allow minimum disruption to road users.

The recovery will take place at approximately 2am, the road will be closed and diversions will be put in place. The recovery is expected to take a number of hours.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area or take alternative routes during this period to avoid disruption.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles travelling along the road before the collision took place are asked to call PC Allie Cotton at the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101 quoting CAD 229 of 17/7/14.
