The 32-year-old was left with what were described as serious injuries after being attacked on a footpath behind Sapphire Close, near Bramford Road, Ipswich, on Sunday night.

Police were still hunting the man’s attacker last night.

The stabbing occurred between 9.50pm and 10.20pm.

The victim is said to have become involved in an altercation with another man on the footpath.

A police cordon was put up around the area which officers said would be lifted yesterday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said: “The offender has not been located, but enquiries are still ongoing.”

The victim was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where his condition was described as ‘stable’.

This morning, police said they are still keen to hear from anyone who had been in the area and witnessed the incident.

Anyone with information should telephone Ipswich CID on 101 quoting IW/14/2313 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

  • All the criminals and gangs etc know there is police cuts and not a bobby in site. There is the occasional town ranger. European gangs require serious policing and cash. You're in deep trouble.

  • This afternoon in Town just spoke to a retired Police Inspector who was less than complimentary about the police, PCSO's and every other person in uniform. He said the Police in this Town talk a really good job but do not deliver. Perhaps He stated a new Central Commander is starting. Well Inspector Hinett will you deliver and actually deal with beggars, drinkers and other anti social behaviour. All they have to do is implement the law, the powers are there, use them.

  • Why no description of the attacker? Did the police not supply the Star with one? I hope this information is not being censored and adversely effecting the hunt for this criminal.

Should cyclists be allowed to go through red traffic lights when it is safe?

A cyclist rode through a red light and turned left while I was walking the dog this week. It was 6.20am, there was no other traffic so no risk but, officially, the cyclist had broken the law.
