A psychiatric nurse accused of licking a woman’s foot and sucking her toes while practising reflexology on her has been found guilty of sexual assault.

The incident took place at Vincent Brookes’ home in Reynolds Road, Ipswich, after he offered to show her what reflexology was, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Brookes, 48, denied sexually assaulting the woman but was found guilty by a jury after a trial.

Adjourning sentence until next month for a pre-sentence report, Recorder Richard Gordon said the offence was a breach of trust and warned him that all sentencing options would be available.

The court heard the reflexology session had been conducted in silence until Brookes took the woman’s big toe in his mouth and started making a “groaning” sound.

Brookes was arrested after the woman complained to police and he admitted sucking her toes and kissing her foot.

He said he did not know why he did it and told officers he thought that because he had gained her consent to carry out reflexology he believed he had her agreement to kiss and suck her foot.

Brookes also said the woman did not say no and she had seemed to enjoy it.

He denied getting any sexual gratification and also denied he had a foot fetish.

Giving evidence, the woman said she had gone to Brookes’ home with him. While they were in conversation Brookes said he was taking a course in reflexology.

She said he offered to show her what reflexology was and got out some paperwork.

The woman filled in a form to state she had no pre-existing injuries or problems which would be affected during the demonstration.

The woman had her eyes open as he put pressure on different points of her foot.

She said: “Then he told me to close my eyes and relax. That’s when it started to feel more like a massage. He initially started to carry on with both his hands and then I felt his mouth going towards my big toe. I initially jolted, but I didn’t know what to do.

“I was aware he was blocking my exit and (I) wouldn’t be able to get out if he tried to stop me. I could feel his lips on my toes. I just froze.

“He then carried on to suck my big toe and the toe next to my big toe. It was like he was nibbling at my feet.

“He didn’t say anything, but made like groaning noises while he was doing it. It was more of a pleasurable groaning.”

After Brookes stopped the woman made an excuse to leave the house.
