The eastbound lane of the Orwell Bridge in Ipswich has reopened after a crane was deployed to remove the wreckage from a car crash on the A14.

Suffolk Constabulary has reported that a van towing a trailer heading eastbound ploughed into to the central reservation after a collision with a Peugeot near the A137 junction at around 11.40am.

Police diverted traffic through Wherstead while a crane cleared the vehicle debris, which is also littering the westbound lane, slowing traffic in both directions.

No one has been reported injured in the accident.

  • I bet it was a nightmare on the roads in Ipswich today (again). Thankfully I wasn't working today. My sympathy to all those affected by the delay.

  • When will our MPs start to fight for a Northern Bypass? Success may help them win another term.

  • Not to worry Fred, I have an idea about them docks, what they need to do is make hauliers book a time slot to ingate, then all they have to do is limit the amount of time slots to what they can manage therefore no more THA. I've already thought of a name they can could call it a Vehicle Booking System or VBS for short, should all work perfect- happy days.

  • Northern bypass? Naa why would the self serving Councillors want roads built nearby their back gardens? Far easier and cheaper to tax people even more with speed restrictions.

  • Reduce speed limit to 40 mph along that stretch of A14, its worth a try. Is it such a big deal if it takes another couple of minutes out of your journey. Everyone's in such a bleedin' hurray. Don't see how a northern bypass would have helped todays nightmare.
