An accident is causing congestion on the north bound carriageway of the A12 near Stratford St Mary

The northbound A12 was blocked at Stratford St Mary earlier this evening because of a serious crash.

It happened at 5.06pm and both the police and the ambulance service went to the scene.

The air ambulance was also asked to attend.

Initially thought to have involved five vehicles it has now been confirmed one car and a motorbike were involved.

It is believed one person suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Traffic was backing up into Essex for several miles but the road has now reopened.

  • I do wish they would invest in some information signs. I joined the jam at colchester severalls, but would have avoided the a12 if known before joining. As it was, dozens of cars were shortcutting on to the narrow roads around Ardleigh. If they can waste millions on signs on the a14 telling us how to drive properly, you'd think they would put some on the a12 too.

  • Your report is entirely inaccurate. My husband was involved in the incident. A motorbike and two cars behind him all crashed into one another in the outside lane. In the inside lane a lorry shunted a fiesta into a camper can parked in the lay by. Including the him that makes 7 vehicles!
