Traffic is beginning to ease after Ipswich’s one-way system was re-opened following yesterday’s storm.
The one-way system near the Waterfront was shut yesterday after the gales tore bricks off walls and exterior cladding from buildings making the road unsafe to use.
College Street and parts of Key Street have now been re-opened. There had been concerns scaffolding could fall from a building into the road.
Suffolk police sent a message on Twitter: “#Ipswich town centre one way system now open. Thank you for your patience #Suffolkroads #UKStorm2013.”
The road closure led to huge delays for people travelling into Ipswich, particularly from the east side of town following huge queues of traffic forming yesterday in the area.
Traffic coming in from the likes of Felixstowe Road and Foxhall Road caused gridlock, with queues struggling to move for much of the day.
