Police and other emergency services were called to the M11 near Epping at around 3.30pm yesterday (Thursday) after the crash blocked the southbound carriageway between junctions seven and eight.

A woman who was a passenger in the car has died. Two other people who were in the vehicle have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The northbound carriageway was also closed for the arrival of an air ambulance.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area as the southbound carriageway was closed for several hours while vehicles were recovered and police carried out initial investigations.

The road has since reopened in both directions.
