A woman has died after a two-vehicle collision in Honington, police have said.

Police, paramedics, an air ambulance and three fire engines were called to reports of the two-car crash in Green Lane, near RAF Honington, at around 3.35pm today.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary tonight said a female driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further details of the woman and the incident are not yet being released by police.

The male driver of the second car suffered “less serious” injuries, the spokesman added.

It was earlier reported that firefighters cut free a motorist involved in the accident at around 4.10pm, according to a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman.

A man in his 20s was treated for a cut to the hand and was discharged at the scene, an East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said.

He said an air ambulance and three land ambulances which were sent to the scene of the collision were stood down. He said no-one was taken to hospital.

The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene. Diversions were put in place before the road reopened at 8.15pm.

Witnesses to the crash are being sought. Call police on 101.

The woman who died has been named as Jennifer Holmes.
