Hundreds of people turned out to watch a parade of colourful characters wend its way through one of Suffolk’s market towns.

The procession of fancy dress figures – this year with the theme The Wonderful World of Disney – launched the Framlingham Gala, an afternoon of fun for all the family.

Included in the parade – led by the gala princesses Abbi Reed, Daisy Chambers and Emma Campbell, pupils at Sir Robert Hitcham’s Primary School – were the cast of Fantasia, Pirates of the Caribbean and Donald Duck.

There was also a fleet of vintage tractors, and motorcycles, and a samba band.

The noisy cavalcade made its way from the Atlas Fram car park to the Castle Meadows for the afternoon’s entertainment.

On the field were performances by the Suffolk School of Samba, Flyin’ Ryan’s Motorcycle Stunt Show, majorettes, the Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts group, plus a magic show, and children’s races.

There was also an air display by a Yak-3 Second World War Russian fighter aircraft, and Bert Stock’s funfair provided a traditional assortment of rides and attractions.

A craft fair also took place at St Michael’s Church Rooms.

EADT editor Terry Hunt judged the costumes in the parade – choosing the Women’s Institute as Fantasia as the winners.

The event aims to unite the town in celebration while raising thousands of pounds for Framlingham Sports Club to improve facilities for its thousand-strong membership.

Parade marshall Tim Scotchmer said: “We had a good turn out with some excellent fancy dress and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves – we are very pleased.”
