Video: Delays as roads flooded in Ipswich

Flooding in Hollywells Road

Flooding in Hollywells Road

Archant

Drivers may face delays getting around Ipswich this morning due to flooding on the town’s roads.

Heavy showers have meant the roads have become difficult to pass.

Hollywells Road was one road drivers were facing difficulty getting through, with some attempting to pass through the flood, which covered both sides of the road.

Other drivers opted to find an alternative route.

A spokesman for Suffolk police believed the incident in Landseer Road might be a manhole cover that had come up.

They added there was the odd bit of localised flooding but nothing out of the ordinary as of yet, and said the water should drain away shortly.

Other roads affected are Landseer Road, Norwich Road, and the entry slip road on the A12 at Capel St Mary, junction 32A.

  • This isn't news. The drains there are always blocked and this happens to one degree or another whenever there is rain. Anyone using that road knows this! How about you report on something useful or maybe push for the drains to be sorted so this doesn't happen!

  • Perhaps if Suffolk County Council really want to make Travel Ipswich a success & fit for the 21st Century they could investigate why so many of the roads in Ipswich flood on a regular basis. Having established the causes (lack of maintenance or insufficient capacity etc.) they could then do something about it, perhaps with the money they have saved by not installing traffic lights at the double roundabouts at Norwich Road Valley Road junction!

  • I think you'll find that video is of Holywells Road! Landseer Rd is further up past the Cliff Lane junction. Sorry to be pedantic but you know ...
