In the past 24 hours millions of viewers have watched and shared hard-hitting footage of a fatal collision in Norfolk released by police yesterday in a bid to get motorcyclists and drivers to think seriously about road safety.
The dramatic film, captured on a headcam fitted to David Holmes’ helmet, shows the moment a car crosses into the path of Norwich motorcyclist David Holmes who was killed on the A47 at Honingham in June last year.
David’s story, a video featuring clips including the collision as well as an interview with his mother Brenda, has been produced by police with the full support of all his family, who hope the campaign will prevent further deaths.
The video has sparked a huge response on social media platforms, with links being shared and retweeted thousands of times.
Dan Westwell, posted on twitter and said: “Wow, that really is hard-hitting, churned me up inside.”
While Annette Snyman said: “Stay safe and think bike.” And Jonathan Pluck added: “As a car driver I always ‘Think Bike’ but this video ( BEWARE very hard hitting! ) utterly stunned me.”
On Facebook, Clare Hayward said: “Very very sad for everyone involved. This video has definitely made we think about watching my speed and to be more aware motorcyclists. “Thank you to the brave family for releasing it.”
Jaynee Smith added: “I do think if half the car drivers got on the back of a motorbike they would be so much more aware of them, I know by being a pillion I am.
“I feel for both the biker and the driver, speed was a big factor that couldn’t be judged. Condolences to the family.”
