Having wowed all four judges in the blind audition stage of BBC talent show The Voice the 21-year-old took a step back in time by visiting Rushmere Hall Primary School.

Jade is a former pupil of the school in Lanark Road, Ipswich and was invited back to sing to the children on Tuesday.

But she wasn’t the only one performing at the two special assemblies.

Pupils from the nursery through to year six got the chance to show off their voices when they got the chance to sing to Jade.

And they also took their performance to another level by reciting a song in British Sign Language.

Alison Leveridge, a specialist music teacher at the school, said the children really enjoyed the morning.

“We were all really impressed with her and she was really good with the children,” said Mrs Leveridge.

“They were all very excited about it before she arrived. Lots of them know about The Voice and how the programme works so they were really looking forward to her coming.

“She did lots of songs the children could join in with and she also did some of her own material.”

Mrs Leveridge explained because the school has a hearing impaired unit they try to learn at least one song in British Sing Language each year.

And after the pupils had performed the song Jade took the chance to join in with them.

“She remembered lots of the songs she used to sing when she was here,” Mrs Leveridge added. “She was reminiscing quite a lot.

“She used to sing in the choir here and we’ve still got programmes with her name in from when she was here.”

The visit came about because Jade’s mum works at the school and Mrs Leveridge said the singer, who also went to Northgate High School, would be welcome to come along.

One thing led to another and ended in what is hoped to be the first of several appearances at Rushmere Hall.

Mrs Leveridge said: “She’s said she’s going to come back soon. She’s going to let us know when her next appearance on The Voice is and the children will all get behind her and vote.

“She’s worked really hard to get where she is and that’s an inspiration to the children. She’s definitely a good role model.”
