Young carers at an Ipswich primary school were treated to a spot of afternoon tea this week in recognition of the work they do for their parents every day.

The group of five youngsters from Cedar Wood Primary School were taken to Seckford Hall, near Woodbridge, for the event on Monday.

Helen Reynolds, the school’s special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCo), said it was important the work of the pupils did not go un-noticed.

She added: “It was absolutely brilliant, it was lovely and the children really enjoyed it, they were in awe of the grounds and the building and Seckford Hall did a lovely spread.

“Most of the children were dropped off at home and all the mums were really grateful that their children were recognised for what they do on a day-to-day basis.”

Following the success of the day, it is now hoped that it can be made into an annual event to recognise young carers at the school.

Mrs Reynolds said: “They go beyond what other children their age do and they never moan or complain. It was a lovely experience for them.”
