Sudbury Town Council is restoring the town’s War Memorial in time to commemorate the end of World War One in November.
The council has been awarded a grant for 75% of the cost of the restoration project by the War Memorials Trust.
Work is set to be carried out in early June by local contractor Abbeygate Masonry Ltd.
The grade II listed memorial lists 236 names of Sudbury men who lost their lives in World War One and five people who died in the Zeppelin raid of March 1916.
After the World War Two, another 60 names were added.
Over the years, the memorial has suffered from the ravages of time and weather - the restoration work looks to return it to its former glory.
To compliment the restoration, a new wreath stand has been designed, built and donated by Andy Phillips, owner of Phillips Engineering, to prevent staining to the restored stone work.
