THIEVES taking advantage of people’s generosity have again targeted charity donations at Sainsbury’s in Warren Heath.

Thieves have stolen clothing put in Oxfam charity containers on numerous occasions over the past few months.

Now it appears a separate bin was left beside the containers under the guise of collecting shoes and clothes for charity.

However, the 6ft by 4ft bin was apparently nothing to do with Oxfam.

Nor is it believed to have been connected to any other registered charity.

The bin was removed early last Friday morning when a man turned up in a van to collect it after police were said to have become involved.

Anne-Marie Breach, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary, said officers were aware of the incidents involving charity items at the superstore and enquiries were continuing.

The large locked Oxfam clothing banks in the car park at the rear of the superstore are said to have been raided around a dozen times over the past few months.

It appeared the thieves were able to get into the containers after obtaining the combination for the lock which was on them.

The latest theft took place at 12.45am on January 8 when the banks’ contents were emptied.

A similar incident occurred around 12.25am on December 17.

Three days earlier a group of men were seen acting suspiciously in the area of the clothing bank late at night.

They were approached and spoken to by police, although nothing was taken on that occasion.
