Showcasing photographic talent in the summer

Students on the BA (Hons) Photography course at University Campus Suffolk are seeking funds for two shows taking place in Ipswich and London this summer to display their work.

Final year shows are put on in order to celebrate bringing student work together and to increase opportunities in their chosen career field.

In exchange for donations, the students are offering contributors a range of rewards.

Contributors can receive private view invites, a named mention as a supporter on vinyl, packs of postcards of the student work being showcased and on social feeds, handmade archival pigment prints, handmade archival c type prints and a hard cover limited edition book of each artist’s project with explanation of the works.

Over the past three years, the group of 33 Undergraduate students have been working to take part in two end of year exhibitions at; UCS Ipswich and Free-range in London, which is one of the largest undergraduate shows in Europe,

The students are known as the Lux Locus group.

Henry Huxtable, one of the students involved in this project, said: “Over the past three years, we have dedicated our time tremendously to photography by putting in a mandatory 3,200 hours of study time in the hope that we can eventually get our work in the correct environment. However doing this isn’t cheap and we need financial support.

Donations we receive will pay for venue hire, transportation of the work/display materials, installation, catalogues, promotional flyers and posters and VIP invites.”

Mark Edwards, BA (Hons) Photography course leader, said: “The Photography degree course at UCS offers students the opportunity to understand and explore in depth the practices, technologies and debates associated with the photographic image. This exhibition brings together these disciplines in a diverse range of media and approaches.”

He continued: “Free-range receives an average footfall of 10,000 people whilst the UCS Ipswich show will reach out to 2,000-3,000 people locally. It presents a great opportunity for local businesses to support emerging artists during their transition whilst at the same time showcasing their brand to a potential 13,000 people on our wall of sponsors, and owning your very own piece of signed work from one of our students.”

Donations can be made up until 8 April 2014 by visiting the Kickstarter page at www.kickstarter.com and search the project Lux Locus UCS

The exhibition dates are: June 5 to 7 in Ipswich at the Forefront Studio and Room 1, UCS and June 12 to 16 at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.
