MOTORISTS have been urged to take extra care as temperatures are set to drop to around -6/7 tonight.

Phil Garner, a forecaster with Weatherquest, said the ice and frost would be “potentially treacherous” tonight, adding people should take it very carefully.

Between midnight and 9am this morning Suffolk police took 49 calls about traffic-related incidents, many involving minor collisions or vehicles coming off the roads.

With temperatures set to dip again overnight and the potential for further snowfall police would like to remind drivers to take precautions and ensure your journey is safe.

Motorists are advised to make sure all car lights are working, that dirt, salt and snow is cleared away from light fixtures, that all windows are fully cleared of snow, frost and condensation before setting off on a journey and the top of your car is clear from snow.

People are also asked to keep windscreen washer fluid topped up, to make sure you have sufficient fuel for your journey, a fully-charged mobile phone and to give yourself extra time and drive at a sensible speed, leaving appropriate distances between yourself and other road users.

If you get stuck in the snow police say stay with your car, but in an emergency if you do need to leave it, park it out of main traffic routes where it will not cause an obstruction when conditions ease and leave a contact number on the inside of the windscreen.

A Suffolk NHS trust has been ranked one of the best of the country, despite experiencing its most challenging winter on record.

Drivers are advised that it is “highly likely” the Orwell Bridge in Suffolk will shut during tomorrow morning’s rush hour amid forecasts of 65mph gusts.

He’s a well known television personality, but what’s John Bishop like live? Reviewer ELLIS BARKER headed down to the Regent tonight for the first gig of his three-night stop in Ipswich.

A Suffolk-based charity came together with businesses and individuals in the county to purchase much-needed sensory equipment for a Bury St Edmunds special school.

Warnings issued of the Orwell Bridge’s third closure in as many weeks have prompted renewed calls for a northern bypass to be built.
