Suffolk is braced for another two days of scorching temperatures as forecasters predict highs of up to 31C for our region.

The forecast has again prompted warnings about the potential fire risks associated with hot and dry weather.

Only Suffolk’s coast will enjoy the respite of slightly fresher conditions as onshore breezes break up stifling temperatures predicted for the county.

It will remain hotter inland, with long, dry, sunny spells throughout the weekend.

The highest temperatures are expected to hit the west of the area – up to 31C for some parts.

Tonight will stay dry with generally clear skies, although some patchy mist and low cloud may develop overnight – mainly near the coast – according to the Met Office.

Any patchy mist or low cloud will clear early on Sunday, making way for more warm weather – predicted to continue into Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be noticeably cooler as temperatures get closer to average.

Last night, firefighters from Ipswich and Woodbridge dealt with a fire on Rushmere Heath.

Five crews were called at about 9.15pm to gorse alight near the Kesgrave end of the heath.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service asked people to stay alert to the dangers of hot and dry weather while enjoying the countryside.

Meanwhile, anyone considering a barbecue should make sure it is positioned on a firm level base and sheltered from gusts of wind, the service said.
