Fundraisers at West Suffolk Hospital are hoping to encourage people to dress up in their finery and dance the night away in aid of the Forget-Me-Not Dementia Campaign.

Money raised from a popular spring ball will go to the appeal, which is being run by the hospital in conjunction with the East Anglian Daily Times.

The black tie event, organised by CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) East Anglia, will take place at the Athenaeum in Bury St Edmunds on Friday, April 25.

As well as a three-course meal and dancing, anyone who attends will get a chance to pick up a prize during a charity raffle.

CIBSE chose the campaign to benefit after several of its members’ friends and families were affected by dementia.

Region chairman Kirk Schartau said: “We always aspire to support our local charities where we can, and are pleased to donate the proceeds from this year’s spring ball to the hospital’s Forget-Me-Not dementia campaign.”

The campaign aims to raise £25,000 to further enhance the support and care provided to patients and families at West Suffolk Hospital.

Money raised will go towards a memory walk to provide a calm and comforting area for patients with dementia. It will also purchase reminiscence materials and help kit out a day room.

Dave Gooderham, fundraising manager with West Suffolk Hospital Charity, said: “Since launching the campaign just five weeks ago, we have been delighted with the response from individuals and businesses alike. Every single penny makes such a big difference for this important campaign, which will also raise much-needed awareness of this condition.” Other fundraising events coming up include a skydive and charity bag pack at Waitrose on Maundy Thursday.
