OFFICERS are reminding people to secure their oil tanks following three thefts in west Suffolk.

Heating oil was siphoned from an oil tank in Manor Lane, Horringer, on Friday between 8am and 2pm and again in Morley Close, Beck Row, between 11pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.

The third incident happened at business premises in Rushbrooke Lane, Bury St Edmunds, between 11am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday when a large quantity of oil was stolen.

In each theft, a large vehicle, maybe a tanker, would need to be used to siphon the quantities of oil taken.

Tips to prevent heating oil thefts include screening tanks with hedging or fencing, cover any external pipes and fuel lines, install lighting and secure any gates leading to the tank.

Call police on 101 with information.
