A man has died following a road traffic collision on the A137 at Wherstead on Tuesday.

The man, from Holbrook, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after the crash where he has since died.

Officers were contacted around 4.25pm to reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a Ford Fiesta van and a VW Caddy van, not far from the junction with the A14.

Police, ambulance, fire service and Suffolk Accident Rescue Service all attended the collision where both drivers were injured.

The driver of the VW van, a 25-year-old man from Woodbridge, was taken to Ipswich Hospital with sternum injury and bruises. He has since been released.

The road was closed while an initial investigation got under way at the scene and diversions were put in place. The road was re-opened around 8.30pm.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision. If you can help please contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police by dialling 101, quoting CAD 301 of May 13.

  • Sad that this ended up with a fatality but why put a photo of the A14 headed the A14 *IS *blocked. The accident was on the A137 a few days ago. Another article on today's EADT refers to a robbery in Haverhill yet the photo is of Norfolk police officers. Haverhill is in Suffolk, close to Cambridgeshire border. I saw a comment only a few days ago about Archant needing to get some more pictures in their photographic library for reporters to use. Totally agree.
