Engineering works could cause motorists problems on major routes across the region this week – including on the A14 Orwell Bridge near Ipswich where the six-yearly inspection is due to start.

This is where you can expect to find roadworks in the region:

A12 Suffolk and Essex:

Capel St Mary, Suffolk: fence renewal

Work to improve journeys by replacing fencing will start this week. The northbound A12 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 14 August for four nights. A clearly signed diversion via The Street and London Road.

Chelmsford to Brentwood, Essex: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys will start this week. The A12 will be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 15 August for four nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the B1002.

Kelvedon: bridge repair

Work to maintain safety by repairing the Ewell Bridge continues this week. The damaged pedestrian bridge over the A12 remains closed 24/7 while repair work continues. Pedestrians will be diverted to use the alternative route via Windmill Hill, Highfields Lane, Maldon Road and Ewell Hall Chase, and vice versa.

A14, Cambridge to Huntingdon:

Work to improve journeys on the A14 between Cambridge to Huntingdon continues this week.

The northbound A1 will be closed between Buckden and Brampton Hut overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Monday 14 August for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A428, A1196 and A14.

Lane closures will be in place on the A1 southbound exit slip road at Alconbury overnight, between 8pm and 5am, on Monday 14 August for two nights and from Thursday 17 August for two nights.

Lane closures will be in palce on the A14 westbound between junctions 24 and 23 overnight, between 8pm and 5am, on Monday 14 August and from Wednesday 16 August for three nights.

A14 Orwell Bridge.

Work on the bridge inspection starts this week, but it will be mainly underneath the carriageway or at night – but there could be some disruption between now and October.

A120 Marks Tey to Coggeshall:

Resurfacing, drainage and lighting – work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing, drainage and lighting maintenance continues this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 14 August for 4 nights.

In addition, both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 18 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A12, A130, A131 and A120, and vice versa.
