Wickham Market: My Last Summer’s Andy Priest in Top 40 chart bid with his single
Family and friends of a terminally-ill man, who appeared on Channel 4 documentary My Last Summer, are bidding to get his single into the Top 40 charts.
Andy Priest, from Wickham Market, starred alongside four terminally-ill people in the TV show who were brought together to talk about their impending deaths and how facing it with their families will help them come to terms with losing their loved ones.
The 45-year-old was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in February 2010 which was followed by aggressive treatment and a bone marrow transplant.
Despite being in “tentative” remission for nearly four years, Andy was diagnosed with an incurable lung disease and he is now fighting every day to live a little bit longer.
It was while visiting St Elizabeth Hospice that Andy discovered a love for music and a talent for song-writing.
And now, his song, A Space for Me, has been released on iTunes in a bid to get it in the Top 40 charts.
Andy, who lives with wife Annette and six-year-old daughter Isobel, said: “My inspiration for music came after my illness. Before that I was just a general listener.
“I can get my feelings across in a song.” A Space for Me is about Andy’s journey and his personal feelings with words that everyone can relate to.
Andy, who also has three sons, added: “The feeling I have is amazing and overwhelming because of the support I have received. It’s left me speechless.
“The support of celebrities and the general public. People who don’t even know me have given me huge support which has given me the fight to carry on with hope.”
Andy’s brother, Jason Priest, has set up The Andy Priest Trust to raise money to help causes close to his sibling’s heart, as well as leave an ongoing legacy.
Proceeds from the iTunes single will go to the trust alongside fundraising events including a sponsored climb over the O2 in London.
