Regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes celebrates its apprenticeships programme.

A regional housebuilder has celebrated the success of its current trainees – and is gearing up to recruit even more people looking to work in the construction industry.

Persimmon Homes Anglia recently relocated to purpose built new offices in Norwich to enable the business to further expand, with the company offering a range of career opportunities.

Managing director Andrew Fuller said: “People might be surprised at the wide variety of roles open to school leavers and those looking to change career.

“Jobs in the construction business are not limited to trades and crafts. Of course we will always need specialist bricklayers and carpenters to deliver high quality homes for local people, but there are also career opening in sales, technical, commercial and within our land and planning teams.

“We currently have more than 30 apprentices and trainees and are looking to recruit additional trainee bricklayers, carpenters, quantity surveyors and trainee technical co-ordinators, as well as trainee sales advisors.

“A number of staff started their careers as apprentices with Persimmon Anglia and progressed to senior positions with the company, including myself, so I can certainly recommend the career opportunities available.”

A group of young carpenters, bricklayers and trainee site managers joined Andrew Fuller at the housebuilder’s Woods Meadow development in Oulton Broad, including many who recently completed their training and some who have just commenced their construction careers.

Ray Winney, senior contracts manager for Persimmon Anglia added: “Currently there are 21 trade apprentices working for us at the same time as studying to become fully qualified tradespeople.

“These young people are starting out on what can be a fantastic career in the construction industry, with lots of opportunities available to them.”

The company also has ten employees progressing through the Combat to Construction scheme for people leaving the armed forces.

Ray added: “We are delighted by the success of the scheme. I have just interviewed for our next intake which will increase our numbers further, and am looking forward to them starting with us within the next few weeks.

“We will then be looking for further new trainees to start later in the year.”
