Wix Abbey, near Manningtree, is described as a “stunning” Grade II Listed home set in “delightful” grounds of around three acres with garaging and tennis court.

Fenn Wright estate agents in Colchester has put the home on the market for £1,150,000 with the option, via separate negotiation, to buy the title for Lord of the Manor of Wix Abbey. The title predates the house and was held by Cardinal Wolsey in 1525 and then King Henry VIII.

Jonathan Perry, a partner with Fenn Wright, said: “Fenn Wright Signature in Colchester were delighted to receive the instructions to sell the distinct and imposing Wix Abbey on behalf of the current owners to whom we sold it to.

“Whilst the house is both unique in its stature and character, it is very rare to have a house with a historic manorial title available to be sold with the home and will be wonderful for both the house and the title to remain in the hands of new owners for many years to come.

“Wix Abbey has already generated good interest from far and wide from its early days on the market in our search for the next ‘Lord and Lady of the Manor’.”

The present farmhouse was built as a small Elizabethan Hall House by the Vesey family from 1561-1575,

The land had previously been granted to Cardinal’s College Oxford after Suppression of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in the 16th Century.

Wix Priory, a small convent of Benedictine nuns, was founded in the early 12th Century.

According to its property description, the homes features an “impressive” reception room with a 10ft high ceiling and drawing room with a central stone surround open fireplace.

“This room also boasts a window seat perfect for snuggling up with a book,” the descriptions adds.

“The large studio on the ground floor opens out onto the landscaped grounds through French doors with far reaching views. Upstairs, the master bedroom offers a walk in dressing area and en-suite facilities, with the four other spacious bedrooms offering views across the gardens.”
