Stuart Bertrand, of Barons Close, Halesworth, pleaded guilty to behaviour which was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich.

The court heard Bertrand had been out drinking on October 27 to celebrate finding a job after he had been out of work since being made redundant at Christmas last year.

Due to the incident on the train he had now lost the job opportunity.

In mitigation Bertrand said: “I’m disgusted with my behaviour. I hadn’t drunk for a long time and obviously couldn’t handle it. I don’t even remember getting on the train.”

Previously prosecutor Tess Mann had told the court the train’s conductor and the compartment full of passengers were horrified to see Bertrand urinating on the floor of the carriage.

Police were called and officers found Bertrand asleep on the seats.

The incident occurred when the train was at Woodbridge.

After being arrested, Bertrand was taken to a custody suite where some cannabis was found on him.

In addition to the public order offence, Bertrand also admitted possession of cannabis, when he appeared before the court.

District Judge Celia Dawson fined him a total of £75. In addition Bertrand was ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

  • So he hadn't had a job for nearly a year, but he can afford to go out drinking and buy canabis? Benefit Britain strikes again.
