A primary school pupil was so impressed with the care he received at West Suffolk Hospital following a short stay that he launched a fundraiser for the children’s ward.

Alfie Garwood, 8, who is a Year 4 pupil at Woolpit Primary School, was recently admitted onto the rainbow ward at the Bury St Edmunds hospital and stayed for more than a week.

He was so pleased with his care that he wanted to raise money for the ward – and approached his headteacher, Jen Carlyle, with the fundraising idea of a slipper day at school.

Mrs Carlyle was more than happy to back the idea and all pupils were able to wear their slippers to school for the day for a contribution of 50p.

The event was christened ‘Alfie’s Slipper Day’ and a total of £60.10 was raised for the rainbow ward.
