Woolpit Primary Academy pupil launches fundraiser for West Suffolk Hospital after short stay

A primary school pupil was so impressed with the care he received at West Suffolk Hospital following a short stay that he launched a fundraiser for the children’s ward.

Alfie Garwood, 8, who is a Year 4 pupil at Woolpit Primary School, was recently admitted onto the rainbow ward at the Bury St Edmunds hospital and stayed for more than a week.

He was so pleased with his care that he wanted to raise money for the ward – and approached his headteacher, Jen Carlyle, with the fundraising idea of a slipper day at school.

Mrs Carlyle was more than happy to back the idea and all pupils were able to wear their slippers to school for the day for a contribution of 50p.

The event was christened ‘Alfie’s Slipper Day’ and a total of £60.10 was raised for the rainbow ward.

A number of schools have already announced plans to close across Suffolk and north Essex this morning after snowy weather hit the region.

Snow lovers will be delighted to hear that Suffolk and Essex could be getting a second flurry of the white stuff later today.

The parents of a six-year-old boy, who died from Meningitis B, are campaigning for a vaccination programme to be rolled out to all children.
