Worlingworth Primary School welcomed a visit from members of the Stradbroke and District Royal British Legion, including Joyce Cooper and her father Alan King, a Normandy veteran.

The branch donated the seeds to the school so that pupils could scatter them to mark 100 years since start of the war.

It is hoped the plants will be flowering as a symbol of remembrance later in the year, when the school will invite more veterans to talk about the centenary commemorations.

Victoria Gascoyne-Cecil, head of school, said the blooms would serve as a reminder of the poppy’s significance.

Children also scattered a packet of seeds donated by Unwins as part of a campaign by Peterborough resident, Stan Kaye, for schools across the region to plant poppies.
